How much rice to cook per person?

Bowl of rice

This is a tricky question to answer as we all have different levels of hunger and satsisfaction. Many of us make the mistake of cooking far too much or too little but in the case of rice the reality is most people are satisfied with different amounts so how much rice should you cook for each person?

We have worked with many cheifs that enjoy cooking rice and most find the following guidlines to be a good recommendation:

Knowing rice recommeds as a general guide starting with approx. 1/2 cup of uncooked rice per person (80g), and adjusting based on the amount of other ingrediants in the meal.

Anything in the range of 60-100g should be just fine depending on the huger level of you guests. After all once cooked Rice will almost double in size so precooked portion size can be a bit misleading..  Don’t forget it’s important to check the instructions for your rice cooker to know the amount of water you should add as different manufacturers can vary.   Bon appetit!

As rice is a relatively healthy food to eat don’t be too concerned about cooking a bit too much. Indeed in my book its better to cook a bit too much than end us with not enoguh food to fill your guests hungry bellies!

And if you are wondering about the calories contained in rice:

White Basmati rice has 262 carories in every 75g portion.
